American Idol 14 - Top 24 - Meet Daniel Seavey

1. When did you first start singing?
Well I have loved music and messed around playing on toy pianos and singing songs from church for as long as I can remember, but I actually started playing in a more serious sense when I was about 10 years old.

2. What role does music play in your life?
Music has helped me find something to work for in my life that I truly love doing. It also has helped me bring people joy in a fun, creative way. I love getting people to smile at my music because it shows me I’ve affected the person in some small, good way. This is a gift I’m thankful I have been given to share.

3. What makes you unique?
I am unique because I am only 15 (and look like I am 10) but I supposedly have the voice of a "30 year-old musical veteran", which seems to set me apart from the others.

4. Do you have a wish list of writers you’d like to write with? If so, who?
I have always thought it would be awesome to write a song with Ed Sheeran because I love his lyrics and how honest they are. I also would love to write with Mali Music because his lyrics all have such great messages in them

5. What are your top 3 all-time favorite songs and why?
"Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran because it’s my “go-to” song to sing or listen to. "The Boxer" by Mumford and Sons because it’s so catchy and timeless and there’s so much artistry and musicality put into that one song, and "Beautiful Eulogy" by Beautiful Eulogy (HumbleBeast Records) because everything about the song is beautifully done; the lyrics, harmonies, etc.

6. What is your strongest musical strength?
My strongest musical strength is playing with an instrument and singing at the same time in my performances. There is a certain spark of confidence and connection that comes over me when I am holding my guitar or playing a piano.

7. What is your greatest musical weakness
I believe learning how to move around without an instrument is something I really need to work on because I am not used to doing it.

8. Who are your top three favorite and most influential artists? What is it about your favorite artists that you are drawn to?
Odd Thomas/Propaganda - HumbleBeast Records (personal friends/mentor), Ed Sheeran, Mali Music. I love how well Odd Thomas/Propaganda and Mali Music use their platform to speak what is good, true and beautiful and to promote faith, and they also have some pretty catchy beats. I love Ed Sheeran as an artist because he doesn’t need anything else on stage but his sheer talent. His amazing voice and guitar skills are all he normally uses and needs in his shows.

9. If you had to pattern your career after another artist, who would it be and why?
Propaganda/Lecrae... because they know how to use their platforms well and how to actually be successful with their music. (Obviously I wouldn't pattern my music after them... but the way they have used their careers for the right things)

10. Why do you think you should be the next American Idol?
At one of the last rounds during Hollywood week, Keith Urban said, "You have such a joy... a light about you!" American Idol can provide me a much larger platform to share that light and joy with others. And because I love music! Also, being able to make a living off of doing what I love is something any person would want.
